Soul Beach Volleyball is offering flexible programs this summer running every Monday and Wednesday evening at Beavermead Park in Peterborough.
The program is designed for athletes new to the sport of beach volleyball as well as experienced players looking to take their game to the next level. Head coach Andrew Hinchey has years of experience working with both beginners and national level athletes.
Each session includes skill development and fitness, followed by organized game play. What makes our club unique is the integration of values and character traits into each session that develop the athlete as a mentally and physically strong individual.
Training in sand offers an outstanding workout. The sand offers an unstable surface that forces the athlete's body to strengthen their stabilizer muscles that are used to help prevent injury, and develop a healthy well-balance athletic body. This makes beach volleyball the perfect cross training activity for all sports including: Hockey, Basketball, Gymnastics, Soccer, etc.

Some of Hinchey's accolades include:
Andrew Hinchey, owner-operator and Head Coach at SBV, has spent a number years competing around the world as a member of Team Canada. He has earned his country two silver medals on the NORCECA tour. He has also represented Canada playing professionally in the National Volleyball League in the states. As he retired from competing for Team Canada he began coaching with the National Team Program to give back to his sport and to develop future Olympians and World Champions.
During his career Coach Hinchey also spent a year playing on beaches all over Australia and on their National tour. While in Australia he discovered his true passion for coaching while working with the team at the University of Melbourne. When he came home he was offered the head coaching position at Durham College where he lead the team to three successful seasons winning the OCAA’s coach of the year in 2010. After returning home he was also offered a teaching position with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board.
Now settled in Peterborough, coach Hinchey is looking forward to giving back to the sport that has taken him around the world and helped him reach his lifelong goals.
"The start of the Soul Beach Volleyball is the start of something great. Volleyball has pushed me to be a better person, it has pushed me to pursue a university education, and it helped me find my true passion in life - Teaching. My goal is to develop athletes who are goal driven and who have a work ethic and desire to pursue exactly what they want in life."

"Both of my daughters joined the Soul Beach Volleyball Program last summer and absolutely loved it. It is clear that Andrew spends a lot of time planning every practice to ensure that the kids get the most out of their time with him. He has recruited several elite volleyball players to help as his assistant coaches which allows every athlete to get lots of individual attention and feedback during all of the drills. Andrew encourages the kids to focus and work hard during every practice, and does so in such a positive and enthusiastic way that the kids want to work hard yet still have a blast doing so. Although the beach season is relatively short, both of my daughters showed obvious improvement during the 10 week program which carried over to their indoor game. We are very fortunate to have someone like Andrew who is such an elite volleyball player himself, who wants to share his skills and enthusiasm with the young athletes in our community. His program and coaching are top notch and we would recommend it for all volleyball enthusiasts."

Usually when we get talking to people about our experience with Soul Beach Volleyball we talk for an hour! So we will condense our enthusiasm into a few sentences. Our 12 year old son, James, hit the “jackpot” last spring when we came upon this relatively new program run by Andrew Hinchey. It is an exceptional program which increases players’ skills, confidence and excitement for the game. Andrew doesn’t only focus on the physical side of the game, he also teaches them about the mental side. Look out! They will be jumping higher before you know it! Fitness increases!! Beach volleyball turned out to be an awesome off-season sport to complement James’s hockey! Best part? He had so much fun!!!

"Soul Beach Volleyball is a “must- do” for all aspiring volleyball players. Program coordinator, Andrew Hinchey, is incredible! His knowledge is expert, his teaching is precise, and his enthusiasm is inspirational. As parents, we were thrilled to witness our daughter’s skill development and confidence grow. This program is going to soar!"

"Our son, Greg (age 13) joined Soul Beach last summer because he had tried volleyball at school and had an interest in trying beach volleyball. As parents, we cannot express how positive the experience was for him and for us as a family. Andrew Hinchey and his team of qualified instructors have made a significant impact on Greg as a volleyball player and all round athlete. For a boy that has played competitive hockey, soccer and basketball over the past five years, volleyball was a new experience and he is absolutely hooked! He now loves beach volleyball and as parents, we were extremely impressed by the coaching philosophy and life lessons that were shared throughout each session. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable about their sport, energetic and gave continuous feedback during clinics. As parents we were very impressed by Andrew's off court lessons which were just as important as the ones on the court. He challenged the players to reach their potential and developed their skills significantly over just a few weeks. Through clear communication and a positive approach, Soul Beach has motivated Greg to be a better player and encouraged him to transfer the skills he has acquired to other areas of his life. Thank you for an incredible experience Soul Beach - See you this summer!"
